iWrap (Individualised Wholesale and Retail Appreciation program)

This project is focussed on the Wholesale/ Retail employment specifically in the hardware industry. The skills developed by young people in this program are specific to the hardware industry but are transferable across other wholesale and retail sectors.

The wholesale and retail industry is a major industry in our region. In 2007 the wholesale and retail sector employed 20.1 % the workforce in Northern Middle Melbourne.This project has been identified by the wholesale and retail industry sector and has taken the lead in the development of this unique program.

Aim
The aim of this program is to skill young people in all aspects of sales with the outcome being job ready trainees for positions in Retail Sales, Sales Representative and or Merchandising positions within the Hardware Industry. The young people will complete the Certificate II in Wholesale incorporating company specific training as well as Certificate’s I in Retail Services.

The young people will also develop skills, such as customer service, monitor stock levels, merchandising requirements, product ranges and knowledge as well as ordering stock independently.

Partners involved
This program is collaborative industry, education partnership between, Northland Secondary College, Ausrep, Bunnings, and Sutton Tools and INLLEN.

Many of the program (student) participants go on to be employed in the Wholesale and Retail sector by the participating companies.
