This program is an investigative activity designed to connect senior secondary school students with business leaders to increase their knowledge of their local business community and contemporary employment.
Description
In pairs students attend a local business to interview a member of the senior management team about the organisation. The students will not necessarily attend and interview a business of their choice as this Program is designed to give the student an experience of interviewing a person they may not necessarily have met or know.
Topics will include:
Students are required to prepare for the interview by investigating the business and the industry they will be attending and fine tuning the interview questions provided. These same principles and techniques can later be transferred by the student when they are preparing for a job interview.
Following the interview, the students are also required to develop a written report and presentation. Each interviewing pair will present their report to the rest of the class as a valuable way of share the information learnt. These presentations can also be a great way of involving the interviewees by inviting them to take part in the presentations.
Suitable Group/s: Year 10, 11 and 12 VCE, VCAL Program length: approximately 8 weeks

School participation and partnership opportunities
Previous Program participants included Parade College, Preston Girls, Reservoir High, Academy of Mary Immaculate, John Fawkner SC and Antonine College. The Program has provided schools with the opportunity to further develop their partnerships with local business. For example, a school may use the program in conjunction with VCE business studies and a student could develop an ongoing relationship with the business owner/ manager. Throughout the years the students return on a regular basis to discuss business theories and practices in the real business world as well as participate in work experience opportunities.
