The inner northern region of Melbourne is characterised by its diversity, including a diversity of cultural backgrounds. The CALD community in the region is made up of a significant number of new arrivals as well as more established groups from refugee and migrant backgrounds.

INLLEN acknowledges the challenges faced by many newly-arrived communities as they settle into Australia. Local education and training providers are in an important position to assist young people and their families to build their knowledge, skills and capacity during the critical period of resettlement.

In 2009 INLLEN initiated a pilot program with NMIT’s Young Adult Migrant Education Program to integrate a work readiness program into the course with a view to improved employment pathway outcomes for the students. This program is progressing towards a sustainable model in 2010. Read more...
