Apprenticeships and traineeships are training contracts between an employer and an employee (either apprentice or trainee). The employee learns the skills needed for a particular occupation or trade and upon completion, gains a nationally recognised qualification. Apprenticeships and Traineeships are a pathway into more than 500 different occupations, as well as being a pathway into further qualifications. Why don’t you consider starting one whilst you are at school?
SBATs (also known as ASbAs – Australian School-based Apprenticeships) combine paid work, training and school. They enable you to work part-time as an apprentice or trainee whilst completing your VCE or VCAL. They usually take two years. You can do SBATs in just about any industry and it’s a great way for you to get your foot in the door to a range of well paid and highly skilled careers. Speak to your school’s career teacher about the potential of doing a SBAT at your school.
